<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Steam Fry is a traditional Native American dish. .</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A friend had posted on Facebook asking if any of his Southern Native friends knew the recipe.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Being a Southern Plains Native - I had never heard of Steam Fry so, I went on a little mission to find it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I asked my Dad as well as several of my fellow Southern Natives and they came out of the woodwork telling me how to make it. Why have I not had or heard of this glorious dish before?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As with most Native recipes - the "recipe" for Steam Fry is just a little bit of this - a little bit of that and technique varies. There are also variations on what to serve it with - Fry Bread, ontop of sliced bread, with a side of fried taters. Of course typically it is made on an open fire in a large cast iron pot but some told me they made it the oven or low and slow in a slow cooker or roaster oven.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirGR6kpxlIgEHEdPJZsWnFopdAmqVTyfZSiBlhyphenhyphenzSQ9Ku8TP_yGDxOJzJa9DzbTMD14lYUI6t_AezMJSnxO5OZ1CjWhhQ71OoCSHHHZgITCn-9bHO3CbzQKXxkwvXPA2eQO5mrUQsP3Ck/s1600/IMG_1925.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirGR6kpxlIgEHEdPJZsWnFopdAmqVTyfZSiBlhyphenhyphenzSQ9Ku8TP_yGDxOJzJa9DzbTMD14lYUI6t_AezMJSnxO5OZ1CjWhhQ71OoCSHHHZgITCn-9bHO3CbzQKXxkwvXPA2eQO5mrUQsP3Ck/s640/IMG_1925.jpg" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I chose to make it in a slow cooker. Low and slow. Let me repeat that - low and slow.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Did I mention.. low and slow?. Don't rush perfection. Trust me.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So, I took a big package of beef stew meat and placed it in the slow cooker, seasoned it with garlic powder, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and a few shakes of some steak seasoning. I added 3 cubes of beef bouillon (I highly recommend Knorr brand Beef Bouillon which you will find in your ethnic/Hispanic food section - it is a much higher quality and less salty version of your typical bouillon cubes)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I added water until it just covered the meat.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Again let me repeat - low and slow. Put the lid on - and walk away. Take a nap, do some laundry - twiddle your thumbs but just leave it alone.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I cooked mine on low for 9 hours and it was very tender.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Low and slow. This is key.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After the 9 hours I used a slotted spoon and fished out all the chunks of meat and set those aside in a bowl.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now, I was told to make a gravy with this broth with flour but, I'm not a fan of flour based gravy's - corn starch is my favorite thickener. So I made a cornstarch slurry and added it to the crockpot and whisked it in. Its hard to say exactly how much to use, just make a small batch up and if its too thin - make some more. Now add your meat back in and serve it up! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I served it with mashed potatoes, hot rolls and green beans slow cooked with bacon.<br />Happy Happy miserable bellies.<br /><br />mic drop.<br />walk away. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
It was pretty hard for me to get into the spirit of Christmas this year and I really don't know why.<br />
Usually I have my Christmas tree up right after Thanksgiving but this year I debated about even putting one up.<br />
I wonder if its because we're still childless? I know a lot of other infertile couples who struggle during the holidays because of "empty backseat syndrome". But, after going on 8 years of this - I've kind of become numb to it. So no, I don't think that is quite it.<br />
Is it because we live a couple hours from all of our friends & family so the likelihood of anybody even seeing it (other than us of course) is slim to none?<br />
We swore we were doing Christmas at our house this year but, we can say that til we're blue in the face but that doesn't mean its going to happen. So, again we will make the trek to our hometowns and spend it with family.<br />
This year I simplified our decorations. Usually it looks as if Christmas threw up all over our home. Including a mini tree in the bathroom. Not this year. Just the basics.<br />
<br />
Merry Christmas everybody.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I hope everyone has a blessed year and safe travels.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made this coaster for my hubby since he's a huge Rangers fan.<br />Using a sticker that he already had - I used a standard round coaster mold that I had gotten from Etsy.<br />I use Famo Wood resin that I purchase at Lowe's. Its a 2 part resin. And I used my own glitter blend of a dark blue halo-gram glitter with a little silver halo-gram glitter for some added sparkle. </div>

Over the past few weeks I've been following a YouTube channel <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/BexarPrepper" target="_blank">BexarPrepper</a> and she has some of the most fantastic tips for long term food storage I've ever seen! Her tips on canning and dehydrating food and many other things are very helpful whether you are "Prepping" (Preparing for disaster or economical hardship) or you are just trying to stretch a dollar by doing things yourself everybody should really check out her channel!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Just today she published this video teaching her viewers how to make<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB4C7QcGVsU&context=C43bcba2ADvjVQa1PpcFMTvyB2mDY7LDHhiPzIyQiwJEKMPlzumzQ=" target="_blank"> home made pudding mix</a> that is shelf stable for long term storage and I couldn't wait to try it! And, it is really super yummy!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I made hubby & I one of these glasses each with chocolate pudding on the bottom and caramel pudding on the top..heaven in a glass! This recipe is super versatile and you could easily add other flavors like mint extract to the chocolate for a minty chocolate pudding, lemon, strawberry or any flavor extract. My next batch of this recipe I think I'm going to experiment with some flavors and see what happens!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you don't have a double boiler (like myself)...have no fear! Just use a pot of water with a metal bowl that is bigger around than the pan..voila same thing as a double boiler!</div>

<span style="text-align: left;">In double boiler, combine the all ingredients except fat (and raw egg) and cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Remember to never let the bottom of the pan touch the water. Cover and cook 5 minutes longer, then add the fat. If using fresh egg remove from the heat and beat half of the hot mixture into the egg. Blend slowly into the remaining hot mixture. Cook over hot water 1 more minute. Stir in the vanilla and chill.</span>

<span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: italic; line-height: 16px;">Prepare crust by finely crushing 2 cups graham crackers and place them in a bowl along with 1 stick melted butter and 1/3 cup sugar, mix well until the mixture is completely moist. Press graham cracker mixture firmly into bottom of ungreased 9 or 10 inch Spring-form pan. Refrigerate crust for 1 hour. Prepare filling by zesting 2 limes and squeezing juice from 1 lime and set aside. In a medium sized mixing bowl add 1/2 cup boiling water to Lemon JELL-O gelatin mix; stir for 2 minutes or until completely dissolved, stir in 1 cup cold water, add in zest and juice from limes as well as cream cheese. Mix ingredients with hand mixer until completely combined and smooth. Pour filling into spring form pan, cover and chill in refrigerator until set approximately, 4-6 hours. Prepare topping in a medium sized bowl by adding 1 cup boiling water to Strawberry JELL-O gelatin mix; stir for 2 minutes or until completely dissolved, stir in 1 cup cold water. Puree half of the strawberries and coarsely chop the other half , stir into strawberry gelatin mixture. Place in refrigerator uncovered for 4-6 hours. After the strawberry gelatin has set stir it all up to make a spreadable strawberry gel, if too thick add a tablespoon of water at a time and stir until desired thickness. Remove ring from spring-form pan leaving cheesecake on bottom pan, place on serving plate , spoon on topping, and decorate as desired.</span>

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 14px;">I'm sure some people think I'm crazy for loving our furbabies the way I do but, until I have human babies of my own to love - my furbabies will just have to "suffer" with all the kisses and snuggles I can give them. </span><br />
<br style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 14px;" />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 14px;">We got Rusti just over a year ago just a couple months after my Puddy girl aka Sassy passed away after 16 years of being my bestfriend which was also </span><span class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #333333; display: inline; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 14px;">shortly after our happy bubble had burst when our adoption plans shattered so Hubby and I were both in a very dark place.<br /><br />My sister in law knew that we had talked about trying to find another red dachshund to maybe fill our hearts a little. She had saw a post on a Facebook group page from back home with Rusti's picture seeking a forever home for her. I saw her picture and knew right away she was going to become a part of our little family. We made plans to pick her up the day after Christmas from the sweet lady who had rescued her from a bad situation. I don't think my sister in law or this sweet lady Kathy realize what a gift they had given us when the ball was set in motion for us to bring Rusti home.<br /><br />The first time I saw her in the arms of Kathy from across the parking lot - my eyes glassed over with tears because she looked so much like my Puddy girl.<br />We couldn't wait to get her home to meet her new sisters - we drove the 2 hours home most of which she was in my lap with a horrid case of doggy farts so bad we had to roll the windows down several times to keep from gagging!<br /><br />We aren't sure what kind of life she had before we got her but we know she was chained up outside all the time even in the heat and cold. We also imagine she was abused and pretty sure by a man because she was scared of my husband Dan, wouldn't go anywhere near him and stuck to me like glue for quite awhile. She is scared to death of loud noises and for the longest time acted like she was scared of the dark and refused to go outside at night. My guess is she was afraid we would leave her out there. When we first brought her home she didn't make a peep for two whole days - not a whimper, not a whine and certainly not a bark.<br />Her eyes were so sad and she was leery of us but that first night she hopped up in bed with us and our 2 other girls but still wouldn't go near Dan and slept on the other side of me.<br /><br />At first she would not sleep at all during the day and right as the sun would start to set she would crash hard. After day 2 it was as if something came alive in her - she started jumping like she had springs in her feet and doing this little tap dance with her front feet and finally we heard a soft bark!<br /><br />Her Daddy gave her the middle name of Nell and sometimes we call her Nelly, Russ, Russy or Russel. She now sleeps in between us and her favorite thing in the world is to nap with Daddy's arms wrapped tightly around her. She never lets Daddy out of her sight and he is now her favorite person. She now trusts us enough to know that we won't ever leave her outside for long. She makes this odd sound that mimics a pigeon and she barks in the house only when she wants attention or to alert us that the dog food pan is empty. This girl doesn't miss a meal for sure! She loves her squeaky toys and doesn't mind when I dress her up. We tell her every day that we love her and that she is beautiful because we know she probably never heard those words before. She can't raise or wag her tail very well because unfortunately at some point in her former life her tail had been broken and I try not to think of how that occurred but she still manages to give us a slight little wag.<br /><br />I look in her big brown eyes and try my hardest not to think about what kind of life she had before she came into our family because it breaks my heart to know that anybody would ever be mean to her. You can tell by the look in her eyes that she is grateful for the life she now has. She along with her sisters Ginny, Sophie Mae and her naughty kitty brother MoonPie bring a lot of joy to our lives and while we can never manage to leave the house without traces of dog hair attached to our clothing - we wouldn't have it any other way.<br /><br />Mama & Daddy love you Rusti Nell, you are beautiful.<br /><br />--------------------------<wbr></wbr><span class="word_break" style="display: inline-block;"></span>--------------------------<wbr></wbr><span class="word_break" style="display: inline-block;"></span>---------------<br /><br />I know a lot of people are afraid of adopting an adult dog because of "an old dog can't learn new tricks" and bad habits. We've had a few moments with Rusti but nothing that a little patience and a lot of love couldn't fix. So open your hearts and minds to the possibility of adopting an adult dog , you will be a hero in their eyes and the result is rewarding beyond measure</span>BrandyLouWhohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04120979190659858029noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6676080542645499897.post-56782153533795385382012-02-14T11:16:00.000-08:002012-02-14T11:17:04.485-08:00Valentine's Day Breakfast Hole in One's<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><b> Ingredients:</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">1 slice of bread white, wheat or whole grain</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">1 egg</span></li>

<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">salt & pepper to taste</span></li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: x-large;">Directions:</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter or for just a round shape you can use a biscuit cutter or a glass to press/poke out a hole in the middle of your bread.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large; text-align: left;">Then put some butter in your frying pan, place bread in pan, pour in the egg either you can even scramble it if you like. Fry egg/bread long enough to toast and achieve a golden brown color than flip the whole thing over and continue to cook the other side the same until egg yolk is cooked to your desired level of doneness. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Heat your griddle or skillet with just enough butter to coat the cooking surface. And when heated and butter is melted place 1/3 cup of mixture onto cooking surface making circular pancake shapes. Cook until bubbles stop forming and is browned enough to flip, allow to finish cooking through. This will yield about 6-7 nice sized pancakes. Top with butter, syrup & powdered sugar and enjoy!</span></div>

We got about 4 inches so this morning when we woke up I decided to send the hubby outside to gather snow for Chocolate Snow Ice Cream! And, my husband wanted to make sure that I told all my blog readers to beware of yellow snow! This recipe makes 1 gallon of Snow Ice Cream! </span><br />

When I first heard of doing this I had my doubts that it wouldn't be crispy but, it comes out perfectly crispy and nice straight evenly cooked pieces! Score! </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMoiAN5J-UOQ-DTgSua2xRESfaTR6efcIvh7YcZTREqjXyLbditGia7psP4suFNCx4S8tZvzvyh9pHc3EY0hpoI3vZCfrsK_zIZ9oQBxxQt1AWjfqLmsbcfMB9j194TsUFnVsSm3cvuY0/s1600/snow+ice+cream+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMoiAN5J-UOQ-DTgSua2xRESfaTR6efcIvh7YcZTREqjXyLbditGia7psP4suFNCx4S8tZvzvyh9pHc3EY0hpoI3vZCfrsK_zIZ9oQBxxQt1AWjfqLmsbcfMB9j194TsUFnVsSm3cvuY0/s320/snow+ice+cream+005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I forgot to take pics of the bacon in the cooking dish but, I'm sure you can get the general idea. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I like to cut my bacon in 1/2 just to make it easier to handle.<br />I cook mine in a large casserole dish. I've heard of other people using cookie sheets and I did try that once and it was a huge fail. The bacon stuck badly. With the glass dish it doesn't stick at all!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Arrange your bacon in a single layer and put the bacon as tight together as you can get them if the bacon pieces touch it is perfectly fine because your bacon will shrink up pretty quickly. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Turn on your oven to 400*, put your bacon (and dish) in the oven and walk away for 17-20 minutes. As soon as your bacon is a nice golden brown but not dark brown, it is done! The exact time will vary depending on your oven and the thickness of the bacon slices so the first time you try this you might want to keep a close eye. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">These Spicy Ranch Crackers are so yummy and not too spicy at least to my liking but, I love spicy foods!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">They are so easy to make and with dirt cheap ingredients you can't go wrong!</span></div>

<b><span style="font-size: x-large;">Ingredients:</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">1 Cup cooking oil (Canola, Vegetable etc)</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">1 packet Ranch Dressing mix</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">2 Tbsp red pepper flakes </span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">4 sleeves of Saltine crackers </span></li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Place all the crackers in a large mixing bowl, pour oil over top and using your hands to mix up the crackers and oil coat the crackers entirely with the oil. Sprinkle on the Ranch mix and red pepper flakes and again mix with your hands to coat the oiled crackers with the dry mixture. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Place crackers on an ungreased cookie sheet making sure not to over lap them and bake at 250* for 20 minutes. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">It did take about 2 & 1/2 trays worth to get these all done but, it was well worth it! This makes a ton of crackers!</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This is a little recipe I made up several years ago to take to a company dinner and it was a big hit. </span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">My hubby loves this and asked me to make it so I thought I'd share the recipe here. This recipe makes a ton of spread so its great for large crowds or a very hungry husband.</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">
</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">It is great served on veggie crackers, celery sticks, carrot sticks, chips or used as a sandwich spread. </span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>Ingredients:</b></span></span></div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">2 8oz packages cream cheese</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">1 16 oz package cooked chopped ham</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">1/2 finely chopped onion </span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">2 Cups shredded cheddar cheese</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">1 16 oz bottle Ranch salad dressing</span></li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpaY84nxaCOnarZyHfVooZWxpb5IiH9RwYDKIni4E5P6Y00u8XFjeTa2HYGrQ14ShLUhToKBN5qxnKbsCWatVsEQW380rCAkBsG657l5NNCW8UB9y7Lz3eWmO2qu3kNUHML8Oq0upQDrQ/s1600/ham_spread_ingr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpaY84nxaCOnarZyHfVooZWxpb5IiH9RwYDKIni4E5P6Y00u8XFjeTa2HYGrQ14ShLUhToKBN5qxnKbsCWatVsEQW380rCAkBsG657l5NNCW8UB9y7Lz3eWmO2qu3kNUHML8Oq0upQDrQ/s400/ham_spread_ingr.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>Ingredient Suggestions:</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">- I use Farmland cooked fine chopped ham <br />
- I have also in the past used sliced deli ham and chopped it myself<br />
- cooked crisp bacon crumbles is also great in this as a substitute for the ham</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">- Green onions are also great to use in this and adds a bit of color</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">- Wild onion greens if available are fantastic!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="font-size: x-large;">Directions:</span></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Cube cream cheese to make it easier to work with and place in medium/large mixing bowl. <br />Add ham, onion, cheddar cheese and depending on how thick you want your spread to be you might start with 1/2 the bottle of dressing and just keep working a little in until you get the desired thickness. Keep in mind once refrigerated it does thicken up and becomes more solid. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

She will be greatly missed.<br /><br />I wanted to share with my readers a vlog that I have been following on YouTube for quite a long time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br />Clara reminds me so much of my great-grandma Ramona and the way she would cook. I have learned many things from my little granny as well as Clara.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7hmM6H99E-y3ELNlZOvp68gybpMQ8W5xGjq4jzunTy9RhVCfQZ5-Q_6iqCzoLQNGALvMNkdbb7BevEanC45yHiG6EWqRGjjANJzYfhkeeLj_bpTCUi1Wr-TnyTw-KSadKolwmvqaHh9Y/s1600/Brandy_Grandma_makeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7hmM6H99E-y3ELNlZOvp68gybpMQ8W5xGjq4jzunTy9RhVCfQZ5-Q_6iqCzoLQNGALvMNkdbb7BevEanC45yHiG6EWqRGjjANJzYfhkeeLj_bpTCUi1Wr-TnyTw-KSadKolwmvqaHh9Y/s320/Brandy_Grandma_makeup.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">My little granny would've been 99 this year but, passed away when she was 92.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">This is a picture of my granny and myself years ago in my room at my parents house (Yes, that is a Hanson poster on the wall.. don't hate!). I was putting makeup on her and doing her hair. She had the most beautiful smooth skin.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">In the near future I plan on featuring some of my granny's recipes including Enchiladas and Tamales.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdmjKZf48une2mw9lEDKI81bUDC9nq1Yza1L9ibHnkHG4gXuvQqRtrC5yYnNsbG8GB8HrqUobaMsEnJMoVFO8bcBkcAxC_QRGOqQyRe546S5zQuSd4NafGC6h11__wKPLztdzG5j0Va2g/s1600/Grandma_13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdmjKZf48une2mw9lEDKI81bUDC9nq1Yza1L9ibHnkHG4gXuvQqRtrC5yYnNsbG8GB8HrqUobaMsEnJMoVFO8bcBkcAxC_QRGOqQyRe546S5zQuSd4NafGC6h11__wKPLztdzG5j0Va2g/s640/Grandma_13.jpg" width="422" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Even in her last days my granny was always a beauty. In this picture I can see the face of my mother as well as myself. And, its odd how many of her traits and personality trickled down the generations to my mother, my sister and myself.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">While Clara is Italian her cooking style is much like what my granny's was but granny was Mexican.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">As of December 24th Clara will no longer be making <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/DepressionCooking?blend=2&ob=video-mustangbase" target="_blank">Depression Cooking</a> videos. While I am sad to see her go, at 96 years old as Clara says "I'm pretty damn old!" I just love her and wish her good health and many years to come!</span><br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGp-f8dJ1G6WQ-DryuevXtIcnM4ilCkezRJUdgINW-xZNHe1vlB-6C3ua6rVz6m0A3ghZUgZTSXkuD7FdpU15rVL1jXBPRXZE7oehuIIm2A21tfd5eyTIFILQMSezNX88htg3syLh7pmc/s1600/indian_taco.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="309" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGp-f8dJ1G6WQ-DryuevXtIcnM4ilCkezRJUdgINW-xZNHe1vlB-6C3ua6rVz6m0A3ghZUgZTSXkuD7FdpU15rVL1jXBPRXZE7oehuIIm2A21tfd5eyTIFILQMSezNX88htg3syLh7pmc/s320/indian_taco.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Being of "Native American" decent (as well as a bunch of other things) particularly Mvskoke Creek & Cherokee.. I love me some fry bread and some Indian Taco's. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Go ahead.. call us "Indian's" if you will.. most of us don't care. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">With that being said.. I like to consider myself a Fry Bread Babe cause I am round, brown and yummy!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br />There is history behind fry bread and I think after you know the history of it, you learn to appreciate it more. It comes with a story of great pain and suffering of Native people.</span><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br />Theres really no easy way to put it but, as most people know during the 1800's Indians were slaughtered, their lands stolen, women were raped, children were taken and were treated as animals.<br />Natives were removed from their home territories and placed in camps that were over crowded and supplies were meager.
</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">The government rationed supplies of lard, flour, salt, sugar, baking powder or yeast and powered milk were usually rancid.<br />Fry bread came from these few ingredients to keep the people alive during their captivity. </span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">To some Fry Bread is a sacred tradition and it is said that it is to be consumed by the people until the earth has again become purified. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">If you Google search for "Fry Bread Recipe" you will only find a bazillion different versions and some will just leave you scratching your head.... think about it - if you are looking for something more on the "authentic" side go for the recipes with the least ingredients. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">But, anyhoo here's the recipe I use:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><b>Fry Bread:</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana; text-align: left;"><br /></span></span></div>

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana; font-size: x-small; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana; text-align: -webkit-auto;">Sift together the flour, salt, powdered milk, and baking powder into a large bowl. Pour the water over the flour mixture all at once and stir the dough with a fork until it starts to form one big clump. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Flour your hands well. Using your hands, begin to mix the dough, trying to get all the flour into the mixture to form a ball. </span>You want to mix this well, but you do NOT want to knead it. Kneading it will make for a heavy Fry Bread when cooked. The inside of the dough ball should still be sticky after it is formed, while the outside will be well floured.<br /><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Cut the dough into four (4) pieces. Using your floured hands, shape, stretch, pat, and form a disk of about 5 to 7 inches in diameter. </span> Don’t worry about it being round.<br /><span style="font-family: Verdana;">In a deep heavy pot, h</span><span style="font-family: Verdana;">eat the vegetable oil to about 350 degrees F. You can check if you oil is hot enough by either dropping a small piece of dough in the hot oil and seeing if it begins to fry, or by dipping the end of a wooden spoon in and seeing if that bubbles. Your oil should be about 1-inch deep in a large skillet or other large heavy pot. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Take the formed dough and gently place it into the oil, being careful not to splatter the hot oil. Press down on the dough as it fries so the top is submersed into the hot oil. Fry until lightly browned, and then flip to fry the other side. Each side will take approximately 3 to 4 minutes to cook. Place the cooked Fry Bread on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.</span></span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large; line-height: 16px;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><b>Now for your Indian Taco filling & topping. </b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Everybody is different on what they like to use for their filling and toppings. I myself like to keep it easy and simple. Remember the old saying.. K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, stupid!) </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Brown 1-2 pounds of hamburger (depending on how many people you are feeding), drain and add 2 cans of chilli with beans per 1 pound of hamburger as well as 1 pkg of taco seasoning per 1 pounds of hamburger. Now don't go getting some nasty canned chilli like that Wolf brand that my Dad used to buy.. I wouldn't feed that stuff to dogs! Get some Hormel or even Walmart brand is better then Wolf. Or, if you are like me you might have some leftover homemade chilli in your freezer so, use that! </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">So, that takes care of your filling.. now for the toppings!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Everybody has their own preferences on toppings...just think whatever you like on regular tacos is good on Indian Tacos. I for one like the whole sha-bang! </span></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Lettuce</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Tomatoes</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Jalapenos</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Taco Sauce, Picante Sauce or Salsa</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Onions </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Cheese</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Sour Cream</span></li>
</ul>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF3dIwVUDVhFG3lEPBFwMefMIieZdaIPemaRotNjSnJSditQuz1FpHXOoAOSdMwhmd7-TvSjkavmJGTyL8ND3jqITEP4qwiQ5d5zAcOU3Dh95f27DzvxrupoK_bgh9yyt8m6DFeO4JL5o/s1600/soup_bowl.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF3dIwVUDVhFG3lEPBFwMefMIieZdaIPemaRotNjSnJSditQuz1FpHXOoAOSdMwhmd7-TvSjkavmJGTyL8ND3jqITEP4qwiQ5d5zAcOU3Dh95f27DzvxrupoK_bgh9yyt8m6DFeO4JL5o/s400/soup_bowl.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This isn't really a "recipe" of sorts. Its one of those "little bit of this - little bit of that" kind of recipes. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">But, I will try to guide you along as best as I can.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Ingredients:</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">Whole fryer chicken (fresh or thawed)</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">Knorr Caldo Con Sabor de Pollo (Knorr brand chicken flavor bouillon) (to taste.. I start off with about 4 tablespoons than gradually add more as needed until desired flavor/level of salty-ness. </span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I swear by the Knorr brand as I have tried many others and it just wasn't the same. I use this any time I need a chicken base or bouillon and it makes a nice warm cup of chicken broth to sip when you are under the weather also! It is available on your ethnic (hispanic-asian) isle of your local grocery store. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">Garlic Powder (to taste)</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">Black Pepper (to taste)</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">Noodles of some kind </span></li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I prefer Fideo style noodles as they are teeny weeny little noodles that literally only take 5 minutes to cook. </span></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">2 regular size cream of chicken or cream of celery soup </span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">Carrots chopped finely</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">Celery chopped finley</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">Water</span></li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2EViSs_lwNXs1UuzvCe8jgoUoORUj0MaXQVp_iKwrMmi_4sXx2SA8C-YSqNbhP_k8miKq9IhK1SUHcG63DHhRtcruAtqQrVmpi5I9PqY0hRfUlPzZ2meSJKvmBGipsm4pCJL3-1xXGJE/s1600/chicken_carrots.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2EViSs_lwNXs1UuzvCe8jgoUoORUj0MaXQVp_iKwrMmi_4sXx2SA8C-YSqNbhP_k8miKq9IhK1SUHcG63DHhRtcruAtqQrVmpi5I9PqY0hRfUlPzZ2meSJKvmBGipsm4pCJL3-1xXGJE/s320/chicken_carrots.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">(My Sweet little mother-in-law helping in the kitchen chopping carrots.. mother in law yielding a knife.. this could get scary.. LOL just kidding!) </span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">You will need a large stock pot to boil your chicken in. Place your chicken in the stock pot and fill with water to just cover the chicken. For a 4-5 pound chicken it will take about 1 hour at a rolling boil to completely cook. After chicken is finished boiling remove from heat and carefully remove chicken from stock pot using meat forks. Save the broth that you cooked the chicken in.. strain out the undesirables (bones, skin etc) and place back into stock pot along with your cream soups, celery, carrots </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I would've posted pictures of the chicken being "plucked" but, its really not a pretty picture.. poor little birdy. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">After chicken has been cleaned from the bones, skin & fat removed shred or chop your chicken meat and place into stock pot along with soups & veggies and allow to cook until veggies are tender but not over-done. At this time you will add your noodles and allow to boil uncovered, remember if using Fideo noodles in particular you only need to cook them 5 minutes or sometimes less. Thicker noodles will of course need to be cooked longer so please read instructions on the noodle packaging for cooking times. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This will make a ton of soup so take advantage of that and start stockpiling your freezer or take some to your neighbor!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Like Paula Deen says.. this will make your tongue slap your brains out! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">This is now the second time I have made this recipe. The first time I used 6 cups of self-rising flour in the place of the all-purp + baking soda. The first time they turned out pretty good but, didn't rise very well. This second batch was much better. </span></div>

<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-family: inherit; font-size: large; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><b>Crisco/Shortening<br />
Directions:</b><br />
</span></div>
<ul style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Grease two 8x4x2-inch loaf pans with Shortening. (I have always preferred using glass baking dishes so these were baked in glass loaf pans). Lightly sprinkle pans with cornmeal to coat bottom and sides; set pans aside.</span></li>
</ul>
<ul style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">In a large mixing bowl combine 3 cups of the flour, the yeast, and baking soda; set aside. In a medium saucepan heat and stir milk, water, sugar, and salt just until warm (120 degree F to 130 degree F). Using a wooden spoon, stir milk mixture into flour mixture. Stir in remaining flour. Keep in mind that dough will be very sticky and that is how it is supposed to be. </span></li>
</ul>
<ul style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Divide dough in half. Place dough in prepared pans. Sprinkle tops with cornmeal. Cover and let rise in a warm place until double in size (about 45 minutes).</span></li>
</ul>
<ul style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Bake in a 400 degree F oven about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove bread from pans. Cool on wire racks. Slice, toast and top with butter, cream cheese, honey or whatever you like.<br />
<br />
I like to keep mine wrapped in tinfoil in the refrigerator as it will keep longer. </span></li>
